For those who know me, it should come as no surprise that I can't cook. I mean, I've tried. And sometimes it's okay. But let's face it, people. I just can't cook! Baking, on the other, hand. That's a little more up my alley. Do I bake more often than I cook? Not necessarily. It's just that I enjoy it a heck of a lot more than cooking. I am so lucky my husband is amazing in the kitchen. He is very passionate about cooking, so much so that he kind of wishes that I share his passion. And maybe I will. Some day. Until then, I will enjoy my husband's talent and, on those rare days when I am left to handle meals on my own without much notice, I'll resort to quick time savers such as frozen Ristorante pizzas or Dr. Oetker Shaker Pancakes.


These past few weeks has seen me more in the kitchen testing out Dr. Oetker Shaker products. The best part about them? That my kids can help! With nearly all the ingredients already combined in one container, you simply need to add enough water or milk until it reaches the line as indicated on the side of the container. Then, replace the lid and shake it all together for a couple of minutes. My kids thoroughly enjoyed this part. I, on the other hand, thoroughly enjoyed the clean-up. Just rinse the container and recycle. Easy as pie! Just check out how simple it is to make pancakes.

First, remove the packaging and unscrew the lid.

Next, fill it with milk or water up to the fill line.

Shake it all together for a couple of minutes and pour.

Once bubbles appear on the surface, flip the pancake and voilà!

One of the other Shaker products that was easy to make was the Dr. Oetker Cupcakes and Muffins. They are both so easy to make and each container makes about 6 servings each. The chocolate chip muffins were a hit in our house and they also have it in blueberry and banana bran. The cupcakes come in one of two varieties - chocolate or vanilla. I wasn't a huge fan of how they tasted but that's why I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will come out with a Shaker version of the super tasty Dr. Oetker Organics product line. Wouldn't that be great?


One of my other favourite Dr. Oetker products is their line of pizzas. I have always been a big fan of their thin crust Ristorante frozen pizzas that you can sometimes find on sale for as little as $3.99. They have a lot of tasty varieties but I prefer Ristorante Mozzarella and Ristorante Speciale. They have  saved the day on many an occasion when I forgot to take out some meat out of the freezer. I had never tried a Casa di Mama pizza, though, until I was sent a coupon to redeem for a free sample. And boy, I cannot tell you how delicious it was! The thing is, people thought that it was homemade. Just look at how yummy!


Seriously, I could totally pull out one of the Casa di Mama frozen pizzas and feel good knowing that my kids will enjoy it. They don't have to know that I didn't slave for an hour over it, do they?

Just before I was about to pick a winner, my son woke up and called for me. He sounded scared, like he awoke from a nightmare, the poor thing. So I laid down in his new double size bed and snuggled up next to him. Soon afterward, my daughter announced she threw up in her bed. I rushed over to find her and her bed covered in the nasty stuff. I felt so bad for her but she was in fairly good spirits in light of the situation. I cleaned her up, dressed her in clean pyjamas and sent her to my bed. She felt warm and I checked her temperature; it was pretty high. I gave her some chewables and now my husband is laying next to her while I do the laundry.

With Christmas only one week away, you might be among those who have yet to wrap up presents and add some final touches to your holiday decorations. Okay, maybe that's just me. But let me tell you, I have had my fair share of wrapping and card-making this week. And boy, am I ever thankful for my newest stash of Scotch Brand Tape!


If you were to ask me which item was my favourite, I'd have to say all of them. Tape is a hot commodity in our house and we go through it like crazy. Even though I am now in my (early) 30's, I still suffer from blemishes on my face, neck and back. Shocking, I know! It doesn't help that I have the terrible habit of picking at them as soon as they appear. I am well aware that it makes it worse but I just can't resist using brute force in order to attack those suckers and let them know who's boss. What right have they to ruin my complexion anyway? Do they not understand that I author a blog and need to appear in photos and other media on occasion? It's quite shameful, really. They must have something better to do then to prey on innocent ol' me. But alas, they choose to live up to their vulgar sounding alias acne vulgaris and torment my skin with whiteheads and blackheads. Yuck!
