So Good Soy Milk Review and Giveaway

Wednesday, August 10, 2011

Last month, my family and I were able to try out a brand of milk alternative called So Good. This soy milk is made from non-genetically modified soy protein by Identity Preservation who uses a monitoring system to help control each step of the manufacturing process. This ensures that no genetically modified soybeans ever enter the supply stream. I also find it very reassuring. Especially where my kids are concerned. Natural foods are a big part of their diet.

When it comes to milk, I personally prefer organic milk. I don't think I'll ever be able to do without it. But when I come across parents who's children have developed an intolerance to gluten or lactose, for example, I am amazed at how more commonplace it is becoming. We introduced goat milk early on in our kids' diet but we also throw in almond milk as well as rice milk to give them variety. And while it's not always their preference, they don't seem to mind a change every now and then.
First of all, it's nice to know that So Good is gluten, cholesterol, animal product, and lactose free. It comes in ten different flavours and I don't think I need to tell you which ones my kids prefer. Chocolate, of course. Made with natural cocoa, their chocolate soy beverage is an excellent source of nutrition and contains 6 grams of soy protein and 308 mg of calcium (per 250 ml serving). It is also low in saturated fat and fortified with 15 essential vitamins and minerals including vitamins A, D2, B12 and riboflavin. During my daughter's birthday party, I offered it to her friends and was surprised to see them drink it without hesitation. Some of them even asked for more!

I think I'm going to have to try the strawberry flavour next just to make this delicious strawberry banana smoothie.

(Update: I have since come up with a very simple recipe for an iced mochaccino using So Good chocolate milk!)

Also, I was pleased to learn that So Good has factories on both the east and west coast of Canada, reducing its distance to market. It's also great to know that So Good has received two recent Canadian Family Foods Award as well as the Parent Tested, Parent Approved Winner's Seal of Approval.
So Good is owned by Earth's Own, a Canadian food company with a passion for health and wellbeing.  Earth's Own are the makers of another beverage called Almond Fresh which recently won the Canadian Living award for Best New Dairy Alternative Product. I shared a couple of the vouchers with my in-laws because a couple of them follow a vegan diet. I brought home a carton and the kids liked it. I found it was great as a milk substitute and especially enjoyed it in my homemade iced cappuccino. Yum!

For this giveaway, So Good is offering a $50 worth in product vouchers to one lucky reader. Please note that only residents of Canada, excluding Quebec, are eligible to win. Use the Rafflecopter form below to enter.

Disclosure: I received vouchers redeemable towards So Good and Earth's Own products to help facilitate this review. All opinions expressed in this post are my own.

  12. Since I tend to prefer things plain and boring, I'd stick with the So Good Original, or maybe even the Strawberry. The Almond Fresh that you mentioned in your post sounds good, but I can't have it because I'm allergic to almonds!
