Which Comments Platform Do You Prefer?

Monday, March 07, 2011

Recently, I added Disqus as the comment platform on this blog. I made this decision because I longed to have threaded comments so that I may reply directly to any comment. It's also great because I can easily post a reply simply by replying to the email notification. This makes it very convenient when posting from my iPhone. It was also quite easy to add numbered comments seeing as they have included it in one of their templates, no html code to worry about. For my readers, I felt Disqus would be easier for those who are unfamiliar with Blogger or who do not have a Google account because you can log in to Disqus using your Facebook, Twitter or Yahoo account. I know some of my readers have expressed a preference for the original Blogger comments so I have decided to put up a survey to help determine whether or not I should stick with the status quo. I am asking that you take a quick second to vote for a comment platform using the voting buttons on the sidebar to the right. If you know of another platform that you like best, I would appreciate it if you could leave a comment on this post with the name of it so that I can check it out. And since I have a $50 Amazon giveaway currently underway, I thought I should give you an additional entry if you vote on your favourite comments platform. Just leave a comment on the giveaway post letting me know that you voted.

Thanks for your help and happy Monday!

  2. I had disqus up on my review blog but took it down due to the lack of numbered comments for giveaways (I'm going to have to look into their templates now that you say that they have that option...hmmmm...).

Funny enough though, other than the threaded comments, I'm actually really liking blogger right now!

I don't like the word verification for disqus.

If you sign up for a Disqus account, it makes using disqus MUCH, MUCH easier! I'm sensing that many of your readers might not have one?!?

  4. I like wordpress (except for the posting comments too fast thing I get sometimes). I like blogger. I hate Discus! It freezes up alot on me and sometimes the comments don't show up. I find myself commenting less on blogs with Discus comments.

  5. I hate Disqus I have had problems and on your blog I never use my full name I put my first name and last initial and it comes out with my full name!! I really don't like that, some people have their reasons and their application shouldn't be allowed to do that on it's own, it never used to and I don't even know if they are allowed to do that, it's only been in the last week.. You must also key in your email addy manually no copy and paste, same with your name but they are now doing full names, I key in Doris C and they post my full last name, it may seem trival to some people but others have reasons, so they should change it back to the way it was. Just my 2 cents!

  6. I like Discus with the exception of having to type in a word verification code when commenting with a tweet. I often have to type the code in a couple of times before it is accepted.

  8. I have had trouble with discus in the past, but right now it is working fine for me, so i dont mind it, i do find that it makes the page slower to load . Of all the ones i have encountered word press seems to be fastest and easiest ,pages load quickly and i have never had any issues with it.

  12. Disqus is good and supports spam protection and threaded replies. See pros and cons at http://www.techtavy.com/pros-and-cons-of-disqus-commenting-system/

  17. At first I didn't like this new comment form, but I think I'm getting used to it. If you can somehow delete the double captcha for when you comment with links, then it would be a golden comment form! It's pretty fast. If it's between this comment form with captcha or blogger, I would choose blogger.
