Christmas in March

Monday, March 27, 2006

I'm so happy I could do a tonne of laundry! This past Saturday, my husband and I purchased a (drumroll please) brand spanking new washer and dryer complete with 14" pedestals that include drawers to store detergent and other items! My husband recently noticed how many loads of laundry I was doing (How many? I've lost count...) and thought about how it was mostly a job I would do. He decided he wanted me to at least be happy to go down to the gloomy basement to do the laundry. And the idea of saving on water and hydro costs really appealed to him as well. The pedestals were just a bonus. Now I won't have to bend over to load and unload! Woohoo!

They don't arrive until Friday which gives us a few days to prepare the area with new tiles. I've been chiseling away at the old floor tiles which isn't much fun and yet it's satisfying to know that, as dirty and as laborous as it may seem now, it will make way for a future of easier laundry-related chores. The Energy Star rated washer has sensors that detect how heavy the load is and automatically uses the right amount of water and pre-loaded detergent, bleach and/or fabric softener. It also has a super spin cycle that leaves your clothes virtually dry, thereby reducing the amount of time and energy required by the dryer. The stainless steel tub magically cleans your clothes better than a top-loading washer and is extremely gentle on your clothes.

Now, if Madeleine has a dirty diaper and makes a mess, I'll say to her, "Bring it on!"
