How to Mirror Your iPhone or iPad Using QuickTime

Last year, I had the pleasure of presenting a couple of sessions at the Toronto GAFE Summit and really enjoyed the experience. I even dared to participate in the Demo Slam. Sure, it was nerve-racking. And yes, I messed up my math joke in front of hundreds of people. But it was a last-minute decision to put my name forward so I had to quickly throw something together. And I would happily do it all over again. With a little extra planning, that is.

For my demo, I decided to show a neat hack I had learned from @Belcastro_21C while at a workshop on the Volume Purchasing Program and Mobile Device Management System. It was so simple, yet a real game changer. Using the QuickTime Player that comes with iOS X Yosemite, teachers can mirror and screencast their iPhone or iPad onto their Macbook. This is super handy for demonstrating the different Google App features on iOS devices, which tend to differ slightly from the Android features. I use my Macbook all the time and so I had purchased a thunderbolt to VGA adapter in order to connect it to a projector. But if I want to connect my iPhone, I would need a lightning to VGA adapter, which I don't have nor do I wish to purchase.

To learn how to mirror your iPhone or iPad to your Macbook, take a look at this short little presentation I prepared for my demo slam. It includes a video tutorial by BrianWoodTraining.

Not only can you mirror your iPhone or iPad to your Macbook, you can also record a screencast which is great if you want to create a video tutorial or record a demo.
