Glad to Donate4Good

Several weeks ago, I made it my mission to purge and clear up the clutter around the house. Most of the clutter was strategically hidden away in closets, the crawl space or in the office where the mess can easily be hidden from view whenever guests are over. But after reading an excerpt on Marie Kondo's KonMari method, I told myself, enough is enough. Why hold on to old clothes that no longer fit, neglected toys that my kids have outgrown or books that are way below their reading level? It's time to let go and pass on these items to those who could really use them.

Marie Kondo KonMari Method

Fortunately, Glad sent over a special package to help inspire our family to clean out our closets and donate gently used items. I was happy to learn that this summer, Glad is teaming up with Goodwill in Toronto and the GTA to encourage residents to donate to the Donate4Good program. In doing so, they will be donating $10,000 + 10,000 black plastic bags to help corral your donated items.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Over the next few months, Glad will be stationed at five select Loblaws locations across Toronto on select weekends. There will also be a number of neighbourhoods that will have door-to-door bag deliveries to help you prepare before your local Loblaws drop-off date. We all benefit when we do our best to help others in need but when you donate a Glad blag with clothing and other gently used items, it's like you're helping out two-fold since Glad will donate $1.50 to Goodwill up to a maximum of $8,000.

Glad for Goodwill

To all my fellow GTAers, have a look through those closets of yours and ask yourself, do all those items bring you joy? Because that old pair of jeans that you never wear anymore could bring joy to someone else who really needs them. In fact, clothing is the number one most wanted item. Other top items include accessories, kitchen items, shoes, boots, linens, towels, outerwear, household decor, wall art, picture frames, kids games and toys. Not only will your donations divert millions of pounds of used goods from ending up in landfills, they will help enable work opportunities and provide skills development for people facing barriers to employment.

Disclosure: I received a Glad package to help facilitate this post. Any opinions expressed therein are my own.

    1. I pass along many items to my niece and nephew, and several items I donate to my school. But I still manage to find several things to donate to charity, too.

  2. We donate items we no longer need/use/want all the time, would rather pay it forward than throw things out that someone else could use. (Judy Cowan)

    1. I feel the exact same way. And I still have so much I could pass along. Sometimes I think I might finally use that item that's been sitting in my closet but then a year goes by without it ever seeing daylight. Time to pass it on to someone else!

  3. I donate a few times a year, clothes, household items, I love Pier One and always changing so instead of garage sales I prefer to give to people who need or want it, also we have a program called adults living with disabilities that pick up things they are looking for, I have to ask is that drawer with rolled pants so nice and neat yours? When can I hire you!!

    1. Personally, I don't think I'd have the patience to host a garage sale. It seems like a lot of work. I used to sell some of big ticket baby items through online classifieds but not the whole thing scares me. Would rather donate to charity.

And yes, that is my pants drawer! LOL I used to fold them in half and lay them flat. But this way, I can fit more pants and I can see them all at a glance without having to fish through them.
