Club House Hickory BBQ Ribs Flavourful Recipe Mix
Saturday, October 06, 2012
As a working mother of two, there are many days that I secretly wish I were more passionate about cooking our family meals. I am incredibly lucky that my husband loves meal prep but he shouldn't have to do all the cooking, right? While breakfast is an easy meal for me to put together, it is often dinner planning that stresses me out the most. After a full day on my feet teaching primary students and then picking up my children from daycare, I often lack the energy and the inclination to cook a delicious meal. Knowing how to properly season foods and how to cook them to perfection often eludes me. I need simple time-saving solutions that will help maximize the amount of time I can spend with the kids instead of in the kitchen. Enter Club House Flavourful Recipe Mixes.
With Club House Flavourful Recipe Mixes, you can cook up premier quality, healthy
and quick meals in no time. Club House also offers a 25% less salt Gravy Mixes which, along with their Flavourful Recipe Mixes, contain zero trans fat, no artificial colours or
flavours and no added MSG. As a part of this blog tour, I was sent an extensive variety of the Club House mixes, it was so hard to narrow down which one I would try first. I have never made BBQ ribs before so I thought I would give the Club House Hickory BBQ Ribs Recipe Mix a try. And I wasn't disappointed.
The Hickory BBQ Ribs recipe on the back of the Club House package was very simple and screamed, "Try me!" Only four ingredients required? Perfect!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (250 mL) ketchup
- 1 pkg (28 g) Club House Hickory BBQ Ribs Flavourful Recipe Mix
- 2 lbs (1000 g) pork spareribs
- water
Directions:
- To make BBQ sauce, stir together ketchup and seasoning. Let stand 15 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Pour ¼ inch (6 mm) water into bottom of roasting pan fitted with rack.
- Spread ⅔ cup (150 mL) BBQ sauce evenly over all sides of ribs.
- Place on rack, meat side up. Cover. Bake 2 hours, turning halfway through.
- Turn ribs meat side up. Baste with remaining sauce. Bake 15-20 minutes, uncovered.
I never would have thought to use a roasting pan to cook BBQ ribs but it worked brilliantly. The only problem was that I didn't have a lid for it. So I covered it with some foil paper. I found I needed to add more water to the pan about two-thirds of the way so it wouldn't dry out. While the kids found the hickory a bit too 'spicy,' it was simply a matter of scraping off the excess BBQ sauce before they gobbled up their ribs. I thought the sauce was finger-licking good and I love that I could use my favourite organic ketchup to make the sauce. This is definitely a recipe I will be making again in the future.
To complement the ribs, I whipped together some mashed potatoes and steamed asparagus. Mmm, mmm, good!
