So Good Iced Mochaccino Recipe

Tuesday, July 10, 2012

The other day, my husband stopped by the grocery store and picked up some So Good chocolate soy milk for the kids. It didn't take long for my son to make note of the big carton of chocolatey goodness sitting in the fridge and it seemed like every time he asked for a drink, he made it clear that he wanted chocolate milk. We don't often buy it so it was a nice treat for the kids. I had some, too, and it hit the spot. I haven't been drinking a lot of milk of any kind lately. But I have been drinking a lot of coffee. With the blistering hot temperatures we've been experiencing, though, I've been craving more of an iced coffee beverage.

In the summer, I often stop by the drive-thru and order an iced cappuccino made with milk but there are a few times when I ask for chocolate milk instead. It makes it a little sweeter and tastier, and calms my chocolate cravings. A few weeks ago, our kitchen saw the addition of a brand new coffee maker, something we have done without for a couple of years since our old coffee pot had shattered. In any case, I put it to good use but usually found that there would be too much coffee left over. Such a shame to dump it in the sink, I thought to myself. Then I remembered an idea somebody gave me (wish I could remember who) to freeze leftover coffee in an ice tray. So that's what I did.

Last week, I decided to try my hand at making my first ever iced cappuccino by blending the coffee ice cubes with some milk and bit of cane sugar. Alas, I was out of milk. But wait. What was hiding behind the water jug? Ah, yes! A carton of So Good chocolate soy milk. That would do, I was sure of it. So I plopped some ice cubes into my personal blender to crush the ice. It was difficult to crush so I tried adding some of the So Good chocolate milk and a bit of organic cane sugar, which seemed to have done the trick. Voilà! A homemade iced mochaccino. Here's a quick recipe that makes a nice big serving:

Ingredients:

5 coffee ice cubes
125 mL of So Good chocolate milk
1 teaspoon of organic cane sugar

Directions:

In a blender, combine ice cubes, milk and sugar. Blend until you have reached desired consistency. Pour, serve and enjoy!

Let me tell you, it was pretty darn tasty. Since then, I have made a few more servings and have thus run out of So Good chocolate milk. Luckily, they sent me some product vouchers to try out some of their other beverages. That means I can venture out of my comfort zone and try some So Good strawberry milk. You know, I still have yet to try that Strawberry Banana Smoothie recipe that I found on their site last summer. I think it's high time I try it out.

  5. never tried it, not sure if I would like it or not and can't really afford to spend $ on an item that I am uncertain about, so this would work for me (I have a co-worker who is lactose intallerant so if I did not like it I could prob pass on the extra to her)
