March Break TO-Style. #KinderMom

Tuesday, February 28, 2012

This month, I have signed on to continue as part of the Kinder Mom ambassador program and I couldn't be more excited. Actually, I could. You see, March Break is less than two weeks away. One week off + a supply of Kinder Eggs = priceless.  I should count my lucky stars.

This year, I will be kicking off my March Break with the Original Baby Soirée that will be taking place in Yorkville. No. I'm not expecting. I think we're pretty much done. (More on that in another post.) I decided to go with a friend of mine, who is also named Diana, and who is expecting her first. She was one of the first teachers I had the pleasure of working with when I first moved to Toronto and when I got pregnant with my first, Diana along with another colleague threw together a baby shower for me at work. It was the only baby shower I ever had and it meant so, so much. I get teary-eyed even today when I think about it.

On Monday, I will be heading back to my hometown of Hamilton for my bi-yearly dental appointment. Yes, I still make the one-hour trek but that's because my dentist is amazing. And I get to see my parents, too. The kids enjoy spending time with their grandparents during the March Break since they only get to see them about once a month during the school year.

For the rest of the week, I am playing it by ear. Even though I regret having moved from Hamilton because it meant leaving behind my family, friends and a job I loved, I have to admit, Toronto life is pretty exciting. There is always so much going on and plenty to see and do.

If you're in Toronto during the March Break, you have to visit the CN Tower. Two years ago, the kids were lucky enough to travel all the way to the top observation deck thanks to Mom Central Canada. They absolutely loved peering through the windows and the glass floor. And it was actually the first time I met the lovely Cora and Kathryn.

Another great place to visit is the Toronto Zoo. We bought a membership so we can pop by for a visit any time. It's so big, the kids never get bored of it. Sometimes, we like to visit Edwards Gardens to enjoy a leisurely walk or a picnic. They have renovated a lot over recent years and it really is gorgeous when all the plants are in full bloom. They even offer camps for kids, too.

The kids and I also enjoy visiting places like the ROM and the Ontario Science Centre, which is my particular favourite since teachers get free admission! But there are always plenty of fun events just for kids lined for the March Break so I'm sure we'll find plenty to do to occupy our time off together.

What about you? Do you plan for a fun-filled getaway with the kids during the March Break or is a staycation more your thing?
