Operation Raise a Flag - Honour a Veteran This Remembrance Day

Wednesday, November 09, 2011

This year, comedian, television writer and Gemini Award winner Rick Mercer invites you to raise a flag as part of the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre's Operation Raise a Flag, a new campaign that encourages people to honour and support our veterans.

When you purchase a small Canadian flag, it will be imprinted with your personalized message of thanks and remembrance. Then, on the morning of November 11, these flags will be placed on the front lawn of the Hospital’s Veterans Centre, the largest in the country, as a tribute to Canada’s war heroes. The vets will be able to see this inspiring display of appreciation through their hospital room windows.

The proceeds will benefit the Veterans Comfort Fund at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre. The fund provides Veteran residents with innovative equipment and computers, a chance to go on community outings and engage in continued learning opportunities and more. In essence, it will enable Veterans to attain the best possible life experience while at the Centre.

You can read the interesting stories of two current veteran residents Norman Bell and Patricia Collins on raiseaflag.ca.

Flags are available in two sizes for a $20 or $50 donation. Take part in Operation Raise a Flag and help them reach their goal of 5,000 flags today.
