Back to School with Command Products by 3M - Product Review

Thursday, August 26, 2010

Do you remember ever having feelings of anxiety prior to heading back to school after summer vacation? I remember feeling excited about going back but also nervous about being ready or not knowing who my teacher would be or who would be in my class. Now that I've been teaching for over 8 years, you would think those feelings of anxiety would have subsided. Not so. After having two kids and losing bits of my mind, I still end up having nightmares in the weeks leading up to Back to School in which I would dream of showing up to class in my pyjamas or at the completely wrong times. And every year, I remind myself to be prepared and organized and everything will be just fine. That's why I was so happy to try out some Command Brand Products by 3M that are perfect for Back to School organization.

Command Brand by 3M

Command has a wide range of products that provide a variety of options for your hanging needs. With their Command Strips, you can now display, decorate and organize without damaging the surface. They hold firmly, are easy to apply, and can be removed just as easily. The Command family of products include hooks (wire and metal hooks, too!), spring clips, picture hanging strips, cord management, sawtooth and wire-backed picture hangers, bathroom accessories, decorating clips, and poster strips.

For review, I was sent a set of cord organizers, a pair of decorative hooks, a spring clip, and a key holder. My daughter instantly laid claim to the decorative hooks and was so thrilled that they came in the same colour as the wall paint in her room. We used one in the office to hang her Melissa & Doug responsibility chart which is pretty heavy but since this particular clip can hold a weight of up to 1 kg/3 lb, it works just fine. We've had it up for a few weeks and it's so nice to have the chart hanging out of the way but just within my daughter's reach.

Command Brand by 3M Spring Clip

The product that I loved the most was the spring clip. I knew exactly where I wanted to put it - in the kitchen. Our appliances are stainless steel so I cannot hang any of my children's artwork on the fridge. Instead, we place it on the back door of the house since we can use magnets on it. The problem is that due to it being a high-traffic zone, the artwork can fall off when secured with a magnet. The spring clip solves this problem in a cinch. Here are the steps I took to ensure a proper and firm hold:

Step 1: Clean surface
Step1: Clean surface with isopropyl rubbing alcohol, wipe gently, let dry.

Step 2: Apply strip to clip
Step 2: Remove red Command Adhesive liner. Position strip on back of clip and press firmly.

Step 3: Press firmly
Step 3: Remove black "wall side" liner. Position clip and press firmly for 30 seconds.

Step 4: Wait 1 hour before use
Step 4: Wait 1 hour before use.

The clip really makes it easy to secure multiple sheets at once. Right now, we use it to hold the family calendar to help us organize important dates, including Back to Daycare and Back to School. I should probably also schedule a spa day sometime soon (wink).

In regards to the key chain holder, I have decided to use that in my daughter's room as a necklace/bracelet/accessory organizer. She has so many pieces of jewelry that we need to find a central location that is easily accessible for her. With the key chain holder, she'll be able to find the perfect accessory for her Back to School outfits. As for the cord bundlers, I am going to be bringing those to work to help organize all the wiring for our soon-to-be-installed office computer. One other thing I would like to mention is that each package comes with an extra strip should you decide to relocate and you can also buy strips separately. There are so many ideas running through my head about different uses for Command Products but you can visit Command.com for some inspirational ideas for Back to School, kitchen, office, or bathroom organization.

Disclosure: I was sent a sample of Command products which included a set of cord organizers, a pair of decorative hooks, a spring clip, and a key holder to help facilitate this review. I was not compensated in any other way. The thoughts expressed in this review are my own honest opinions. This review was possible
