As guests of the Toronto Botanical Garden, my family and I attended the second in the City Critter Series called "Great Birds of Prey" last month.  We learned about the fascinating world of predatory birds and got to meet a few of them, with a return visit from Hibou who we first met at the Hoot n' Howl Owl Prowl back in January. Let's just say the kids were super excited for part two in the City Critters Family Series.

The presentation was very interesting and I learned a lot about hawks, falcons and vultures. I think I fell in love with the peregrine falcon. It must have something to do with his Elvis sideburns... I also learned that the turkey vulture loves to eat carrion, which is a fancy word for... yep, you guessed it. Roadkill!

...the falcon is the fastest animal on earth? It can dive at speeds of over 320 km/h!

One of the things I love most about Toronto is that you can always find neat places to visit and activities to experience, many of which are both family-friendly and fun. Take, for example, the Toronto Botanical Garden located in Toronto's Edwards Gardens. Ever since my husband took me there for a leisurely stroll while we were dating, I knew it wouldn't be the last time.

A few years later, we found ourselves frequenting the gardens often with our firstborn. It was always so beautiful to see the flowers in full bloom and watch my daughter as she squealed over the geese and other animals. Little did I know about all of the educational programs that the TGB provides for families and schools as well. I only just learned last year from a friend that they offered summer camps and how much her son really seemed to enjoy it.

From the Summer Reading Club for Kids to March Break Nature Camp, there seems to be a range of fun and engaging activities for the whole family all year round. Our family was recently invited to join in on the City Critters Family Series full of hands-on, interactive and educational family sessions, which will take place on five different dates throughout the next several months.
