Picnic on the Patio: Turkey Lettuce and Tomato in a Bun

Saturday, August 01, 2015

We are smack dab in the middle of summer and all I want to do is sit outside on my new patio furniture. When lunch time rolls around, I often default to my meal of choice: a good ol' fashioned sandwich. And as summer is the season for picnics, what better way to enjoy my sandwich than with a picnic on the patio. For some picnic inspiration, I turned to LetsDoPicnic.ca. Then I headed to my local Valu-Mart for some President's Choice picnic essentials.

On the menu: a yummy TLT! A turkey, lettuce and tomato sandwich. I picked up a package of Maple Leaf Natural Selections Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast, a bag of Tostitos Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips and a bottle of Pepsi. I didn't buy any bread because, as is often the case, I always have leftover hamburger buns from previous BBQs sitting in the freezer so I thought, why not use them for my TLT sandwich? Here's how you can make your own:

Turkey, Lettuce and Tomato in a Bun

Ingredients

  • 2 Wonder hamburger buns
  • 6 slices of Maple Leaf Natural Selections Oven-Roasted Turkey Breast
  • 4 slices of tomato
  • 2-3 romaine lettuce leaves
  • 1 tbsp of prepared mustard
  • 1 pickle, sliced

Directions

  • Place three turkey slices on the bottom half of each bun.
  • Top each with mustard, lettuce and tomato.
  • Cut in half and serve with pickle on the side.
Serve with an ice cold Pepsi, Tostitos tortilla chips and salsa.

Whether you're planning a romantic picnic for two, a picnic at the park or even an indoor rainy day picnic, visit LetsDoPicnic.ca for recipes, tips, and ideas, and stop by your nearest President's Choice retailer. 1. That's my kind of lunch! I hate fancy food, that kind of lunch is better than a 5 star to me.
