Back to School with Target

Friday, September 06, 2013

Psst!

Can you keep a secret?

I've been hesitant to share this with you but I have to be honest here.

Would you believe that I have yet to step foot inside a Target store?

I know. I must be crazy!

About three weeks ago, I received this ginormous box with an equally giant locker sticker plastered on the front. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was a back-to-school care package from Target. Oblivious to what awaited me inside, I opened up the box right in front of my kids. Big mistake! With the exception of children's clothing, my kids and I fought over who got what. Can you blame me? I'm a school supply junkie!

Now, having heard about all the fuss over the new Target stores, I had shied away from the busy parking lots and long lineups I had previously read about in my Twitter feed. So imagine my surprise when I learned that Target, contrary to my initial and utterly erroneous belief (*hanging head in shame*), carries much more than just clothing. Please don't shun me.

Lo and behold all of the wonderful back-to-school necessities to be found at Target:

Pencil crayons, markers and crayons. Oh, my! Oh, and washable Crayola markers to boot. A teacher mom fave!

Fun and funky Sharpie markers, decorative adhesive tape, paint sets, scissors, erasers... my heart is racing.

And, wait. Is that a Disney Planes lunch bag I see? Okay, I guess my son can keep that one. And a stash of pocket tissues? Now that is just plain brilliant. I never in a million years would have thought to buy those for back to school. It fits perfectly into a lunch bag or school bag pocket AND mommy's purse, too. Target was so on the mark with those.

Trendy school supplies, fashionable children's wear... got it. But groceries, electronics and toys? And coming soon, Starbucks? Who knew Target has it all?  Clearly everyone but me. Time to take my first pay check of the school year and head out on a post back-to-school shopping trip. You might not hear from me till Monday...

  1. I knew Target had everything because Oprah use to talk about them and had items on her show or I would not have known either....love the Kleenex designs and idea!

  2. Ooooh! Nice haul of goodies! :D While Canadian Target is NOT comparable to the US ones (sorry!) in the grocery selection, I am still loving having the store there for different selection!

    1. My son likes it, too but is using a small one for kindergarten since he only really needs to bring a snack. We're saving the Planes lunch bag for when he starts grade 1 next year.

  14. I love Target, just not Target Canada.. I lived in the states for 10 years and that was my place to shop! Their prices are very different here in Canada.
