Lug Airbus Weekender Bag - Add a Splash of Colour

Saturday, July 21, 2012

When I look at my wardrobe and accessories, the majority of the colours I see are neutrals. Browns, blacks, whites. Basic boring. There are a few solid-coloured pieces that I own which are bright and bold, and funny enough, those are the ones I receive the most compliments on. So when I saw the new Spring/Summer line of bags and accessories from Lug, I just knew I needed to add more colour to my life. And what better way to do that than with something practical, stylish, and just plain smart.

As a mother of two young children, spending the night away from home always requires that I pack for the inevitable, whether it's rain or shine. This means I am always stuffing a number of items into my small duffle bag, which I originally bought as a carry-on for my trip to Italy back in university. It has two deep pockets on either side and two smaller pockets on the front. And that's pretty much it. Needless to say, it doesn't quite cut it now that I'm married with children. It seems I am always packing something or other in an additional bag or two since it won't all fit in my old bag. It wasn't until I saw the Airbus Weekender Bag that I felt like I had found the solution to my travel woes.

When Lug offered to send over one of their bags, it was hard to narrow down a colour, let alone a style. But the very name of the Airbus Weekender Bag caught my eye from the get-go. You see, I often plan an overnight stay with my parents in Hamilton in order to maximize the amount of time my kids get to spend with them. Recently, my dad had to undergo a procedure that required him to stay in the hospital overnight. So this time, I stayed a couple of nights in Hamilton on my own while my husband took care of the kids. I packed up my new Lug bag in a cheery plum colour and was amazed at how much room there was.

One of my favourite features is the ventilated zip pocket with easy access from the side for shoes or items that need separating such as dirty laundry. On the opposite side is Lug's signature hidden water bottle pocket that I'm thinking could also work for a quickly storing your cell phone while you reach for your keys. The Airbus Weekender bag has a gazillion compartments  and one of the front zip pockets has soft-lined pouches for electronics. It also had pen holders to keep you organized and a detachable key fob, which I find is handy since I can easily find my keys. On one side, you'll find a luggage strap that slides securely onto a suitcase handle, something that will surely be useful on my BlogHer trip to New York next month.

The removable padded shoulder strap is comfy and easily adjustable, and the two-tone water-repellant material seems quite durable. The Weekender bag also has a wipeable bottom with metal feet and an ID window on one of the longer sides. The large zip pocket is perfect for my MacBook or iPad. The spacious main interior has two cargo pockets and a slim zip pocket. I'm telling ya, this would be an awesome upgrade for that little old woman who lived in a shoe.

The Lug Airbus Weekender Bag is available for purchase on LugLife.ca (or LugLife.com in the U.S.) for $123.00. You can also use their store locator to find a retailer near you. There are dozens upon dozens in Ontario alone! Also, be sure to check out their super adorable Undercover Bears which is a pillow and blankie in one. I'm not even going to mention their one-of-a-kind Beanie Chair for your... cell phone?
