Yoga Tree Midtown Grand Opening

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Earlier last month, my sister-in-law and I attended the grand opening of Yoga Tree Midtown located near Yonge and Eglinton. While my sister-in-law had been to a different Yoga Tree location many times before, this was my first time. In fact, I have never been to a yoga class that wasn't in a regular fitness studio. Doing yoga in a studio designed with yoga in mind is a completely different experience, one that left me with a feeling unlike anything I had felt before, a feeling of utter relaxation and tranquility.

Yoga Tree Midtown is the fourth eco-friendly Yoga Tree studio located in Toronto, just two minutes from the Eglinton subway station. There you will find three large rooms offering multiple classes, either heated or non-heated, shower facilities, a tea lounge, and lockers. Classes range from Gentle Hatha, Hot Yoga, Power Flow, Beginner's and Restorative Yoga.

During the event, we were invited to try out a 30-minute restorative session that included the soothing sounds of crystal bowls with Darren Hall. This class is offered every last Friday of the month and if you have never experienced it before, I truly recommend that you do. Combined with the gentle restorative yoga led by David Good, this short sampling of this unique class truly awakened the senses yet left me with a feeling of sweet serenity. I literally felt lighter than air as I walked out of the room, completely oblivious to the hustle and bustle around me.

Shortly afterwards, I made my way over to experience an amazing Thai yoga massage that left me speechless. Never in a million years would I have believed that all the awkward body contortions that I had seen from afar could ever feel so incredible. Thank you, Drew!

The event also included a couple of Lululemon fashion shows with Lululemon ambassadors and Yoga Tree founder Jason Lu. It was during the fashion show that I fell in love with their Transformation Wrap made with breathable Boolux that can be worn in a bunch of different ways. (And I cannot thank my two sisters-in-law who bought me one in grey for my birthday!) We also enjoyed some delicious organic refreshments courtesy of Herbal Infusions Tea Co., Freshii, Fresh on Spadina, Kale Eatery and Almond Fresh.
