March Break Guide: The Ontario Science Centre

Monday, March 12, 2012

One of my favourite places to visit with the kids has always been the Ontario Science Centre. Mainly because it's really close to home and because teachers get free admission. But also because there is always something to see and do. From their regular exhibits and the KidSpark area to special exhibits and IMAX films, there's plenty of fun to be had by all.

This week at the Ontario Science Centre, families can enjoy special programming in addition to Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees Imax film, which I highly recommend. Here are some of the educational presentations you can expect for March Break 2012:

The Science of a SuperDog - Learn how these cuddly canine became SuperDogs and watch them dance, jump, leap, weave, move and groove. Daily shows at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:30 in the Procter & Gamble Great Hall, Level 2. Limited capacity.

Meet the Firefighters - Meet Sparky the Dog and a team of firefighters as they teach about fire safety. And if the weather's nice, visitors can even climb aboard a real fire truck. Takes place daily from 12:00-2:00 at TELUSCAPE outside of the Main Entrance, Level 2.

Movie Magic - Meet a special effects team and help them test a collection of props, create instant snow, make an audience member fly and explore unusual make-up applications. Daily shows at 12:00, 2:30 and 4:30 in the Imperial Oil Auditorium, Level 1.

Recycling with Orange Drop - Visit the Orange Drop Recycling tent to learn about hazardous waste how to dispose of it safely.about hazardous waste and how to safely dispose of it. See a battery recycling display, cool furniture made from recycled materials and play with touch screen sorting games. Kids can draw and design using magnetized whiteboards and walk away with great hand-outs and lots of swag. Visit www.makethedrop.ca to learn more. Entrance Building, Level 1.

Leonardo da Vinci’s Workshop - The Exhibition - This is your last chance to experience the world through the eyes of one of the world's greatest artists and inventors. View 20 exclusive scale models of his inventions including his Mechanical Lion and Robot Soldier, the famous Great Kite flying machine and the Self-Propelling Cart. Admission to this special exhibit costs an additional $5 for adults or $4 for children. The exhibit closes on March 18.

Stay tuned for some exciting events happening at the Ontario Science Centre near the end of the month!

  2. Michael saw the Super Dogs on BT this morning. He begged to go tomorrow to see them. Sigh. Too bad I'm out of town and Daddy has to work
