French Resources: FSL Homework Toolbox/Trousse pour les devoirs

Saturday, October 01, 2011

In recent days, I have been approached for some teacher advice by a couple of blogging buddies whose children are learning French as a Second Language. Like most parents, they want to know how they can help their children to learn what can be a difficult language. It isn't always easy to find French resources to refer to parents, especially when it comes to learning pronunciation.

Recently, the Rainbow District School Board lead the development of the «FSL Homework Toolbox/Trousse pour les devoirs» a website that provides homework support to French Immersion program students and their parents. Students, parents and educators in Core and Extended FSL programs will also find it helpful. The website includes audio files and video clips in French and English demonstrating instructional strategies, a reference guide on specific topics, a list of French language learning websites, and general tips for learning French. I think the audio clips will help students learn correct pronunciation of words. And the fact that students can access this site for free and from the comfort of their own home will make it all that more appealing for them to use. I am so happy that the Ontario Ministry of Education supported the creation and public sharing of this site. Yay!

Check it out and let me know what you think. Do you think it's handy? Would your kids use it?

  2. Thanks for the post. That's a great idea and kudos to the Ontario Ministry of Education for supporting! As a mom of a toddler now (yes, I start early to think about school options :)), I keep wondering if FSL is the right path for her. One of the questions my husband brings is how we can help her with homework... so maybe this will help. One comment I have to make about the website is that URL is so long, not very intuitive!! Oh well.

  4. You're welcome, ladies! I hope your kids get some use out of it.

Iuliana, I totally agree. FSLtoolbox.com would have be sufficient, I think.
