Create Your Own Pop-Up Books Kit Review

Sunday, October 31, 2010

Recently, I was selected to review a Create Your Own Pop-Up Books Kit, available from Growing Tree Toys, an online store that sells a variety of educational toys. They first started out as a local store in State College, PA over 30 years ago and began their online store in 2003. When you visit their site, you will find a large selection of toys for children of all ages including award-winning and eco-friendly toys.

The Create Your Own Pop-Up Books is one of several kits by Creativity for Kids. It comes with two blank hardcover books ready to fill with customizable pop-ups and decorate with stickers and markers, included in the kit. The larger book measures 8.5" by 8.5" and the smaller book is 6.25" by 6.25". The quality of the paper is excellent and absorbs the markers quickly so we didn't have any unsightly fingerprints dotting the pages. Both my daughter and I loved the brightly coloured stickers and the googly eyes were a nice touch, too.

Last year, my daughter had received a similar kit for Christmas. She was 4 and a half at the time and wasn't really into it so I was surprised when she expressed how much she wanted to complete her first pop-up book. She took great care and much pride in publishing it and I love that I was able to be a part of that. That's the great thing about crafts. You get to bond with your kids in a different way that allows you to share your creativity and encourage imaginative expression. It's also a fun way to engage in writing.

For her first book, my daughter decided on a birthday theme. I designed the cover using the black marker and she decorated it by colouring it in and using some of the cute stickers. (I love the butterfly!) We easily decorated some of the plain pop-up pieces and added them on easily thanks to the double-sided adhesive that was already on each piece. The kit also came with illustrated instructions on how to use the pop-up pieces. We whipped up a neat looking pop-up book in no time!

If you get a chance, browse through the Growing Tree Toys store. If you have a blog, you may even be interested in joining their blog sponsorship program where you can test products like the one featured here. It only takes a minute to apply - Growing Tree Toys Blog Sponsorship Program.
